The govern of the Balearic Islands has developed the plan of environmental and tourist equilibrium (PEAT) 2017-2020, that unites measures of different administrations (Island Councils, Town halls, Administration of the State) to move towards a sustainable tourism model from the environmental and territorial point of view.
As the govern explained in a statement, there are initiatives that are already approved or in the process of implementation, and others that are planned and envisaged for the temporary horizon up to 2020.
They point out that the general objective is to achieve a balanced and sustainable tourism activity (from the economic, environmental and sociocultural view). This is not only important for the economy of the Balearic Islands, but for the whole of society also.
The PEAT was announced in the Parlament by the Vice-President of the govern, Biel Barceló, at the end of 2016, and has been elaborated with the collaboration of the different consellers of the govern.
The plan includes measures in the medium-long term, which involve the areas of tourism, environment, Hacienda, labor, territory, energy and health.
